Within the darkening woods, the birds gather on bare branches. They are visitors here, passing through this space in transition along their own seasonal journey. Once they are gone, the feathers are the only physical reminders that they were ever there at all. The forest, caught in between the shift from autumn to winter, returns to the still quiet of this liminal time.
This pendant features a fantastic Picasso jasper, full of color-changing veins and fractures healed only by time and nature. The stone is accented by a twig cast in sterling silver. The opposing side has been cut out to showcase the natural beauty of the stone, adorned with two miniature handcrafted drifting feathers. The side of the stone's bezel is stamped marked with my maker's mark (BLJ). The silver has been oxidized, a process which creates the blackened or antiqued appearance on silver. The raised points have been polished to shine, while the low points retain the oxidized color to show off the depth and details. The pendant measures 1.7" tall and 0.9" wide at the widest point. All metal used in this piece is sterling silver.

A few notes on caring for oxidized sterling silver: oxidized patina on sterling silver isn't particularly durable to long-term exposure to water (like bathing or swimming) or a lot of scrubbing, as friction is the way to polish silver to shine. Constant exposure to tasks such as hand washing, bathing, swimming, washing dishes, etc., will slowly wear away the oxidized patina leaving a shiny silver finish.
