The dark sky viewed through a canopy of bare branches. Marcescent leaves resting in a carpet on the forest floor. The cool of autumn is transitioning into the chill of winter, and nature is preparing to rest.
Twigs cast in Italian bronze frame Picasso jasper, grey with black veins running through like tree branches. These are held in oxidized jeweler's brass to capture the last bright rays of the sunlight before it descends. The backside of each earring is stamped with my maker's mark (BLJ). The ear wires are 20g sterling silver. Each earring measures approximately 1.6" tall and 0.75" wide at the widest point. The raised points have been polished to shine, while the low points retain the oxidized color to show off the depth and details. The metals used in this piece are jeweler's brass, Italian bronze, and a tiny bit of sterling silver for the loop for the bail and the ear wires.

A few notes on caring for oxidized brass: oxidized patina on brass isn't particularly durable to long-term exposure to water (like bathing or swimming) or a lot of scrubbing, as friction is the way to polish brass to shine. Constant exposure to tasks such as hand washing, bathing, swimming, washing dishes, etc., will slowly wear away the oxidized patina leaving a shiny golden finish.
