It seems a few ghosts may have wandered into this year's Great Pumpkin Patch! 👻🕯
An old superstition says that if a candle flame turns blue, it means a ghost is nearby! This particular type of amber holds a secret: in sunlight, this orange - red amber has a blue cast to it! The structure of this material isolates the ultraviolet light in sunlight, causing it to have a blue - purple tinge.
Etching the surface of the silver created a more organic texture and allowed me to add fine details like the ribs (segment lines) and the lines on the stem. The pumpkin is also adorned with a tiny leaf and curly pumpkin vines, one of which creates the loop for the chain. The stone is the aforementioned amber with blue cast. The stone's translucency allows the carved face to glow through the stone so well, revealing the yellow-orange gradient that cause the light to resemble a flickering candle. While laying flat it looks like a plain pumpkin, but with light behind it the carved face glows through the amber stone just like a jack-o-lantern.
This particular Great Pumpkin Pendant features a carved vintage grin inspired by a1960s blow mold design, a new face for 2026! All of the silver has been oxidized, a process which creates the blackened or antiqued appearance on the metal. The raised points have been polished to shine, while the low points retain the oxidized color to show off the depth and details. All metal used in each pendant is sterling silver

A few notes on caring for oxidized brass: oxidized patina on brass isn't particularly durable to long-term exposure to water (like bathing or swimming) or a lot of scrubbing, as friction is the way to polish brass to shine. Constant exposure to tasks such as hand washing, bathing, swimming, washing dishes, etc., will slowly wear away the oxidized patina leaving a shiny golden finish.
