The 'BoOok!' lockets are an ode to my favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus. Using scenes from the movie and other reference images, I have recreated Winifred Sanderson's spellbook in sterling silver.
Inside the locket:
- a tiny broom
- a stamped quote from the movie: "Come, we fly!"
The stitching on the front and back covers as well as the text on the back cover were hand-drawn and then etched with acid. The cover is hinged in the front and opens to reveal the magical contents. The front cover is adorned with a small brown glass eye, wire snake accents, and the clasp portion encircling the eye. The inset border has been textured to mimic the pages of a book. The locket latches on the side with a tiny clasp. The spellbook's spine has ridges, just like the binding of ancient tomes. Etched text and my maker's mark (BLJ) grace the inside the front cover. The silver has been oxidized, a process which creates the blackened or antiqued appearance on silver. The raised points have been polished to shine, while the low points retain the oxidized color to show off the depth and details. This pendant measures 1.75" tall, 1.5" wide , and 0.4" deep. This is a heavy pendant with a good quantity of sterling silver. All metal used in this piece is sterling silver.
